The Herold-Loipe is an ideal combination of sporting challenge and scenic enjoyment. A wide cross-country trail for sporty skiers with several moderate climbs and a longer, fast-paced descent. On sunny winter afternoons, you will get your money's worth here as you tackle the athletic climbs on the western side of the Kulmberg. The best way to experience this trail is to start from the cross-country skiing stadium via the Stadionloipe. It can also be easily extended with the Kulmberg Waldloipe.

The Herold-Loipe starts at the Kreitseiler junction (C1) heading south. You can choose to go directly via the Peter Rosegger junction (D1) or via the Froanweg through the forest up to the Herold junction (E1 - connection to the Kulmberg Waldloipe). From there, a wide loop leads you along the western slope of the Kulm near Pension Herold. You ski along the edge of the forest and moderately uphill until you reach the highest point right next to the forest edge - here you also have a connection option to the Waldloipe. A brisk descent takes you across wide curves down the Kulm slope until you reach the lowest point. From there, a crisp, slightly sloping ascent brings you back to the Rosegger and Herold junctions.

From the west:

Take the A10 to Knoten Ennstal - take the exit towards Graz/Schladming. Drive along the Ennstal-Bundesstraße for approx. 20 km until you reach Schladming. Take the turn-off for Ramsau. Continue to the village of Ramsau where the XC-stadium is located.

From the East/North:

Take the Pyhrnautobahn direction Liezen. Then follow the Ennstalbundesstraße to Schladming. Take the turn-off for Ramsau. Continue to the village of Ramsau where the XC-stadium is located.

Exit from the Ennstal main road at Schladming-Mitte. Continue to Ramsau-Ort to the car park at the Dachstein Event Zentrum. From here, start on the Stadionloipe heading west up to the Kreitseiler junction. This is where the Herold-Loipe begins in the direction of the Rosegger (D1) junction.

At the Dachstein Event Zentrum directly next to the cross-country skiing stadium.

With the buses of the Ramsauer Verkehrsbetriebe from Schladming (also from the train station) to:

Stop Ramsau-Ort - to the start via the Stadionloipe
Stop Kreitseiler - for a more direct entry about 150 m from the Kreitseiler junction.

The Herold-Loipe is an ideal training trail for athletic skiers. Due to its western exposure, conditions often remain very good until late in the evening. It is very sunny in the afternoons.
