difficult open Mountainbike · Schladming
Very beautiful round trip that leads along cycle paths and asphalted roads, forest roads and country lanes to the foot of the Dachstein and offers wonderful views.
This tour begins at Planet Planai in Schladming. Follow the R7 to the Untere Klaus, where your first climb up the Birnberg begins. Now continue to Rössing, past Silberkarklamm car park to the Fliegenpilz snack station. Here, a gravel path leads in the direction of Ramsau-Kulm, where you will bike a short stage on the road, then up the Kulmberg. Continue on a forest path downhill to Ramsau-Schildlehen, where, in the direction of Gasthaus Edelbrunn, the next climb towards the Dachstein valley station awaits. Now comes the most beautiful part of the tour – through alpine pastures and meadows at the foot of the Dachstein south face towards the Bachlalm. Next, a mountain lane winds down to the Filzmooser Landesstraße, a road you will follow for 2 km. Before the Auwirt, turn right onto a gravel road leading to a reservoir. Now comes the final, steepish climb up through forest. Passing the Mandlberggut, an alpine lane drops down to Mandling, where you can then enjoy a pleasant ride on the R7 back to Schladming.
Weather changes, rapid drops in temperature, thunderstorms, wind, fog and snowfields are objective dangers and require the right behaviour on the road. Hut keepers are experienced mountain experts who can give good tips about the weather and the route. Lack of equipment, overestimation of one's own abilities, carelessness, poor physical condition and a wrong assessment can lead to critical situations. During thunderstorms: Avoid peaks, ridges, trees and rope belaying at all costs.
