The tour

From Donnersbachwald via the road to Hinterwald and from there via the single trail to just before the idyllic and pure Lärchkaralm and via the forest road further to the Stallaalm.

For the protection of the game (resting times), driving on the trails is only allowed at the following times:

May 15th to August 31st from 08:00 am to 06:00 pm
1st to 30th September from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm

Driving on the path from Lärchkaralm to Stallaalm is only allowed until the end of the 1st week of September.

Turn-by-turn directions

We start in the center of Donnersbachwald. We continue along the road in the direction of the valley. After the hut village Hinterwald we turn left onto a gravel path. The ascent to the Lärchkaralm is now on an easy, varied and beautiful single trail. Again and again you change the side of the stream over wooden bridges and cover some meters in altitude. The trail is also a hiking trail, so respectful interaction is to be observed. Shortly before the Lächrkaralm the single trail ends and you come to the somewhat steeper forest road which leads the last kilometers to the Stallaalm. Both alpine pastures invite you to a comfortable rest, but only in Lärchkaralm something can be consumed. Return via the forest road, where after the Lärchkaralm another short climb awaits, before it only goes downhill to Donnersbachwald.

Getting there

From Schladming: Follow the B320 to Trautenfels. Turn right in the direction of Irdning. Follow the road to Irdning, take the second exit at the traffic circle and turn right at the large intersection. Follow the road in the direction of Donnersbach. Cross the village and drive along the Glattjoch road to Donnersbachwald.

From Liezen: Follow the B320 to Trautenfels. Turn left in the direction of Irdning. Follow the road to Irdning, take the second exit at the traffic circle and turn right at the large intersection. Follow the road in the direction of Donnersbach. Cross the village and drive along the Glattjoch road to Donnersbachwald.

Parking is available at the foot of the Riesneralm, about 500 meters from the starting point.

Security

Always wear a helmet and appropriate clothing.
Ride only on paved and signposted paths.
Watch out for traffic at crossroads and road junctions! Be considerate and give way.
Avoid blocking the rear wheel and thus help to maintain the paths.
Control your speed downhill!
Protect the environment and do not leave garbage, etc. in the mountains!

Equipment

Bicycle helmet, cycling clothes, sturdy shoes, rain protection, sun protection and enough to drink.

Breakdowns can happen - but rarely in front of one of the numerous service points: a basic equipment of tools and accessories therefore never hurts! Spare tube and/or patch kit, universal wrench, air pump, brake and shift cable, and a screwdriver can be helpful.

Author’s recommendation

A stop in one of the two idyllic huts in the Lärchkaralm should not be missed on this tour.
