Active snow management

Snow farming

Since the winter of 2013, Ramsau am Dachstein has been actively managing its snow cover using a method called snow farming. During the cold winter months, a large pile of snow is produced or collected and then covered at the end of winter. The idea is that the remaining snow from the previous winter can be reused the following year, allowing for an exceptionally early start to the season. Up to 80% of the snow can be stored throughout the summer for the next winter.
