The via ferrata is regularly inspected for technical safety. However, conditions on the via ferrata and the approach are weather-dependent, and additional equipment (e.g., crampons) may be necessary in addition to the standard via ferrata gear.

Tour description

This Via Ferrata is among the most difficult in the Eastern Alps. Not only does it take a good deal of courage but it also requires considerable arm strength to scramble up.

From the Dachstein Glacier Cable Car mountain station, descend to the Hunerscharte ridge – either via the short Hunerkogel via ferrata or the groomed trail. Then descend via the Hunerschartensteig to the junction with the Sky Walk via ferrata.

Take the Dachstein Glacier Cable Car down to the valley.

Arriving from the west: From the west you can take the Munich-Salzburg motorway, continuing on the Tauern motorway (A 10) until the Ennstal junction. From here take the Ennstal A-road (the B 320) for around 30 km into the Schladming-Dachstein region, then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off. Drive through the Ramsau Village and then turn left to Dachstein toll road. Continue up to the parking lot at the Dachstein glacier cable-car.

Arriving from the north: From the south-east take the Pyhrnautobahn motorway (A 9) to the Liezen junction and then the Ennstal A-road (B 320) into the Schladming-Dachstein region. Then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off. Drive through the Ramsau Village and then turn left to Dachstein toll road. Continue up to the parking lot at the Dachstein glacier cable-car.

From Schladming Rathausplatz (town center) or the train station, take bus line 960 of the Ramsau public transport company to the final stop at the valley station of the Dachstein Glacier Cable Car.
