Seethalerhütte

The Seethalerhütte on the Dachstein is located at 2,740m, is the highest refuge in Upper Austria and was first built in 1929. At the foot of the Dachstein peak, the hut is located in a breathtaking environment and offers a beautiful view of the mountain world up to the Großglockner.

The best way to reach the Seethalerhütte is with the Dachstein Südwandbahn. Here you can park and take the cable car to the top station. From here it's a leisurely one-hour hike along the glacier trail.

From there you can climb the Hoher Dachstein (2,993 meters), which you will reach in about an hour. The summit of the Dachstein can be climbed via a via ferrata with difficulty A/B.

If you want to hike from hut to hut, you can continue from here to the Simonyhütte, Adamekhütte, Dachstein-Südwandhütte, Guttenberghaus and Austriahütte.

You can also spend the night at the hut. There are 22 beds divided into mattress dormitories and multi-bed rooms available. Electricity and hot water are available. There are no winter rooms, only emergency shelters with free access.

1929: The Seethaler family from Hallstatt builds the highest hut in Upper Austria. The landlord Sepp Seethaler came to the Seethalerhütte at the age of 22 and took care of the hut and guests for 50 summers until 1979.

1969: Construction of the Dachstein South Face Cable Car. This facilitates the supply of the hut.

1979 - 2000: Peter Reitmann, an experienced mountain guide, becomes the owner of the hut, where he contributes to extensions and various alterations. Thus, the once modest base becomes a cozy resting place.

2002: A renovation was carried out, since then it is also possible to stay overnight in the Seethalerhütte.

2016-2018: The Seethalerhütte is newly built, this was necessary because the building fabric of the old hut suffered massive damage in recent years.
