Grimming-Donnersbachtal

THE MOUNTAIN and THE VALLEY are there for you.

Grimming-Donnersbachtal is there for you if you are looking for a precious gem in the midst of the bustling Schladming-Dachstein holiday region. This is a place of character, heart and backbone. In winter as well as summer, THE MOUNTAIN and THE VALLEY have all kinds of adventures in store for you.

Up at the Riesneralm, you will find 32 km of the finest pistes imaginable and be able to slice down always-snowy slopes back to the valley below. This ski area has become quite famous as the site of Austria’s first dedicated children’s ski circuit – a 5 ha area purely for the enjoyment of “little dudes”. At the highest ski village in all of Styria, the Planneralm, you can carve through incredible snow. And off-piste, too, the mountain snow surpasses every expectation. Whether cross-country skiing, sledding, winter hiking or ski touring.

In summertime, Grimming-Donnersbachtal presents a gleeful array of unique natural landscapes and a wide selection of recreational opportunities. Biking & hiking on the mountain and valley paths, the occasional refreshing dive into Putterersee or the Summit Pool, fragrant experiences at the Pine Distillery and amid iris-cloaked meadows, the exhilarating perspectives of deep gorges and high summits. And so much more …

Planneralm & Riesneralm

Our ski mountains

Skis on your shoulders, a board under your arm and your ski helmet adjusted just right. About to celebrate winter sports the way they were always meant to be. The Planneralm and Riesneralm look forward to seeing you here.

The world’s biggest snowman.

Sights set on a Guinness World Record.

Since 30 November, Gerhard Peer and his team have been hard at work in Donnersbachwald, giving it everything they’ve got in their mission to set a new world record for the world’s biggest snowman, a record most recently set in Maine, USA, in 2008, at a height of 37.21 m. All their shoveling, bulldozing and shaping is focused on one jaw-dropping goal: reaching 40 meters in 40 days. You can actually watch the growth of this white giant LIVE. Either right there in person, or from the warmth of your own home via Facebook or at www.derbergdastal.at/schneemann

Stylishly sporting a hat and scarf, on 1 February the snowman will be officially judged by a representative of the Guinness Book of World Records. And then – if a new world record is indeed set (we have our fingers firmly crossed) – it will be time for an all-out celebration: an open-air party along with all the bells & whistles you’d expect.

Styrian Snowman.

The Tracker.

Round after round.

Of course, the powder snow crunches under your cross-country skis and everything runs. Over snow-covered meadows, through small woods and along splashing water. THE MOUNTAIN and THE VALLEY give you quiet adventures or adventurous peace - just as you like it. And Gerhard? He will spur you on the cross-country ski runs.

Nighttime on the piste.

Ski touring

Your personal date for Friday evening. When the lifts on the Riesneralm have stopped running and nighttime envelops the mountain, it’s time to set out. A table on the mountain is reserved for you. All you need to do is attach your ski skins and take that first step. The ultimate touring experience.
