City museum Schladming

Stadtmuseum Schladming

ATTENTION! The event has already taken place.

The "Bruderladenhaus" (popularly known as the "Bruderhaus") is the only comparable and surviving architectural monument in Styria.
It was built in 1661 as a social institution for miners in the industrial district to the west of the town centre.

Its founding mission was fulfilled until around the end of the 19th century (end of mining activity). After the dissolution of the last mining structures, it was purchased by the municipality and used as a residential building for socially disadvantaged people.

After the local council decided to give the house a permanent function by establishing the town museum, a general refurbishment took place from 1987 to 1989.

The museum was opened in July 1989. In 1990, the local authorities of the Schladming area founded a social welfare organisation on an association basis to provide modern forms of non-hospital care (care for the elderly, home nursing, meals on wheels, etc.). This association has given itself the name "Bruderlade" after the founding mission of our house.
