Three new mountain lifts for the region

Modernizing the Planai–Hauser Kaibling connection

Starting with the 2025/26 winter season, the popular Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Area will be upgraded with the addition of two state-of-the-art lifts on the Hauser Kaibling and Planai, raising the overall quality of skiing experiences to a whole new level. On the Hauser Kaibling, a new 10-passenger gondola will replace the current “Senderbahn,” while on the Planai, the new “Mitterhausalm I” 8-seater chairlift will take over from the old “Sonneckbahn.”

Planai: New 8-seater “Mitterhausalm I” chairlift replaces “Sonneck” quad lift

On the Planai, the new “Mitterhausalm I” 8-seater chairlift manufactured by Doppelmayr replaces the former “Sonneck” quad lift, thereby providing a faster, more comfortable connection from the Hauser Kaibling to the Planai. With a capacity of 3,000 passengers per hour and a ride time of just three minutes, long waits are a thing of the past. Heated seats, all-weather hoods, and plush padding ensure maximum comfort even on the coldest days. The result: a major upgrade to the ski connection between the Planai and Hauser Kaibling in both directions.

Hauser Kaibling: “Senderbahn” becomes a 10-passenger gondola

The new “Senderbahn Hauser Kaibling” 10-passenger gondola produced by cableway manufacturer Leitner will offer a significantly faster connection between the ski mountains of the Planai and Hauser Kaibling. In under five minutes, skiers and snowboarders will be able to make their way directly to the Hauser Kaibling transmitter plateau – just one lift ride away from the highest point in the entire Schladming 4-Mountain Ski Area. With a capacity of 2,800 people per hour and a top speed of 6 m/s, the Leitner gondola provides a link that is both efficient and comfortable. Its aerodynamic cabin design minimizes wind impact whilst significantly enhancing the overall comfort of the ride. Ski racks in the gondolas facilitate boarding and debarkation – making things significantly easier for families in particular.

Fageralm: New 8-seater gondola for a family and kids’ paradise

As of the 2025/26 winter season, the new 8-seater gondola on the Fageralm will bring greater comfort, efficiency, and family-friendliness to the ski area. The two existing double chairlifts will be replaced, making the Fageralm – located in the Enns-Pongau area of the Schladming-Dachstein region – significantly more appealing to skiers, winter hikers, adults, and children alike. The new Fageralm gondola, built by Doppelmayr, features 55 cabins and can transport up to 1,160 passengers per hour. With a ride speed of 6 m/s, guests are able to reach the sunny high plateau of the Fageralm in under 12 minutes. The gondola spans 810 meters in elevation, with the base station at 935 meters and the top station at 1,745 meters above sea level.

Special focus has been given to sustainability: the new gondola had previously been used by the Grossarl lift company and is now being repurposed as part of an eco-conscious rebuild. Most of the mechanical components – including stations, pylons, and sheave assemblies – are being reused. The system will be supplemented with a new control unit, motor, gearbox, haul rope, and additional pylons and cabins. The total investment in this modern, environmentally responsible project is around €12.5 million.
