Sport climbing, alpine routes, and spectacular via ferratas between the Dachstein and Schladminger Tauern

Schladming-Dachstein offers ideal conditions for anyone drawn to the rock - from that first handhold to challenging alpine climbs. More than 30 via ferratas of varying difficulty, seven via ferrata training areas, and over 1,000 alpine climbing routes open up a wide range of options for beginners and experienced rock jocks alike.

A particular standout is the Dachstein South Face via ferrata, one of the most spectacular and demanding routes of its kind in the Alps. The sheer scale of the rock face and the alpine setting make it an unforgettable challenge for experienced alpinists.

The region also caters well to the needs of families and rookie climbers. A number of family-friendly climbing areas offer a safe and playful introduction to the sport. The Rittisberg, in particular, has established itself as a versatile destination for climbers of all ages: the via ferrata and the nearby practice climbing center provide ideal conditions in which to build technique, confidence, and safety skills in a comfortable setting.

Another popular meeting point for young climbing enthusiasts, in addition to the via ferrata routes in Ramsau am Dachstein, is the via ferrata training area on the Stoderzinken, which is specifically geared toward children and teenagers and offers a gradual introduction to climbing.

With well-secured routes, modern infrastructure, and certified mountain and climbing guides, everyone will find the right conditions for a successful climbing experience in Schladming-Dachstein.
