Steirischer Bodensee Road Bike Loop

Tour description

The tour starts at the Planai valley station in Schladming and follows the Untere Klaus to Haus im Ennstal. Passing the Hauser Kaibling valley station, the route continues to Ruperting, where the climb to the Steirischer Bodensee begins. After a short break at the scenic mountain lake, a fast descent leads down to Aich.

In Aich, the route crosses the Enns River, continues to Weißenbach, and climbs via Rößing to Ramsau am Dachstein. From there, a rapid descent leads down to Pichl.

Passing Pichl Lake, the route follows the Enns River, transitions onto a gravel road, and turns left over the Enns bridge. A short push section under the B320 ensures a safe crossing before reaching the Hochstraße, offering stunning panoramic views. The final section leads back to Schladming.

The tour starts at the Planai valley station in Schladming and follows the Untere Klaus to Haus im Ennstal. Passing the Hauser Kaibling valley station, the route continues to Ruperting, where the climb to the Steirischer Bodensee begins—an ideal spot for a short break.

After a descent to Aich, the route crosses the Enns River, continuing through Weißenbach and climbing via Rößing to Ramsau am Dachstein. From Ramsau, a left turn leads into a fast descent down to Pichl.

Passing Pichl Lake, the route follows the Enns River, transitions onto a gravel road, and turns left over the Enns bridge. A short push section under the B320 leads to the Hochstraße, offering scenic views before returning to Schladming.
From Salzburg: Follow the A10 to Altenmarkt. There join the B320 and continue in the direction of Liezen. At the Schladming exit, turn right at the Jet petrol station and follow Coburgstraße to the Planai car park on the left.

From Graz: Follow the A9 to Liezen. There join the B320 and continue in the direction of Schladming. At the Schladming exit, turn left at the Jet petrol station and follow Coburgstraße to the Planai car park on the left.

There is plenty of parking available at the Planet Planai car park.

Take the train from Radstadt or St. Michael to Schladming. From there it's a 10-minute walk or 3 minutes by bike to the starting point.
  • Always wear a helmet and appropriate clothing.
  • Stick to designated and marked trails only.
  • Pay attention to traffic at intersections and road crossings! Be considerate and give way when necessary.
  • Control your speed on downhill sections!
  • Respect the environment—leave no trash or waste in the mountains.

The Right Bike: a road bike or gravel bike is recommended.

Breakdowns can happen - but rarely at the doorstep of one of the numerous service points: a basic kit of tools and accessories therefore never hurts! Spare inner tube and/or repair kit, universal spanner, air pump, brake and shift cable, as well as a screwdriver can never hurt.
