Star Place Stein an der Enns

Sternenplatz Stein an der Enns

Tour description

The night sky over the Sölk is one of the darkest and clearest celestial stages in Europe.

Get ready for a special kind of nocturnal natural theater! At Sternenplatz Stein an der Enns, the sky above the Sölk takes you into a fascinating world full of cosmic spectacles. Away from artificial light sources, the night sky here is one of the darkest and clearest in the whole of Europe - perfect for discovering constellations, following the dance of the Milky Way or even spotting the Northern Lights.

As dusk falls, a new show begins every evening: the first stars twinkle on the horizon, the North Star turns majestically, and sometimes it rains up to 100 shooting stars per hour on balmy summer nights - especially during the Perseids in August. Throughout the year, the sky above the Sölktäler offers a changing spectacle: from winter with its sparkling belt to the summer triangle of Vega, Deneb and Altair.

Special celestial spectacles such as lunar eclipses or - very rarely - a total solar eclipse are also a real highlight. Even though the next one in Austria won't take place until 2081, every clear night is worth it to experience the magic of the universe up close.

Here you can see exactly where the pitch is located.
