The tour

One advantage of this alpine hike is that it already starts out at an elevation of 1,890 m above sea level.  It is a hike with a character all its own, first leading us gently downhill to the Brünner Hütte, then through the “Brandner Urwald” (forest) to the west.  A beautiful, sparse larch forest, later a dark forest of pine, flanks this narrow trail, first leading steadily downhill, then undulating gently through broad hollows, then once more over rounded hilltops and small rocky sections to a mountaintop high above the Ahornsee.  At this point the forest gets lighter, our hike now characterized by hilly terrain with a mind of its own, along with beautiful clearings.

During the last quarter of this route, we hike close to the escarpment high above the Grafenbergsee, able to enjoy beautiful unobstructed views.  Crossing beautiful alpine pastures with ancient pine and larch, we reach the idyllic alpine basin of the Grafenberg Alm.
