At the 12th Night of Fado, the Carlos Leitao Ensemble presents us with the top fadista Silvana Peres. Over many years,
her musical journey took her through the various Fado houses in Lisbon, finally ending up in the Clube de Fado, the
“Olympus” of the scene, in 2022. In 2017, Silvana Peres released her first CD "Fado no Pe", which was named one of the
10 best world music albums by Blitz Magazine and with which she toured around the planet for three years.
In 2022, Peres recorded the album "Água Nova", which contains many elements of other musical styles. Although she fully
embraces the fusion of Fado with other genres, Fado remains always present and noticeable in her songs. Carlos Leitao,
together with his brother Henrique Leitao and their closest friend Carlos Menezes, worked with almost all of the Fado
greats in the scene. Her debut album "Simples" enjoyed great success in Portugal, Spain and Brazil and sensationally
enriches the Fado repertoire with ten contemporary original compositions. Leitao has become one of Portugal's leading
Fado interpreters as a singer, composer and guitarist.
It is no longer possible to say with certainty whether Fado developed from the songs of Portuguese sailors or from
Brazilian musical styles. In any case, it has its origins as Portuguese national music in the disreputable bars in the slums
of Lisbon.
Today Fado is considered the blues of the Portuguese.
