Galsterberg and Rittisberg: A Second Winter Season for Two State-of-the-Art Cable Cars

06/09/2023

This coming December, in the picturesque vacation region of Schladming-Dachstein, two recently constructed cable cars are gearing up for their second winter season. A cutting-edge 10-person gondola whisks guests up the Galsterberg near Pruggern, while a combo chair- and gondola lift promises winter sports enthusiasts an exhilarating experience on the Rittisberg.

Galsterberg Boasts New 10-Person Gondola

"Our new Galsterberg cable car transports guests from the valley to the mountain station in a mere six and a half minutes. Long wait times are a thing of the past. Broad glass sides ensure that riders enjoy a stunning 360-degree panoramic view during their ascent," says excited Planai Managing Director, Georg Bliem, as he looks forward to the upcoming winter season. His company poured approximately eleven million euros into this new lift. Manufactured by South Tyrolean company Leitner, the 10-person gondola offers padded individual seats and ample legroom, promising the utmost in riding comfort. It has the capacity to transport up to 1,800 passengers per hour. Architecturally, blending with the natural landscape was paramount. Both the mountain and valley stations proudly showcase a regional, characteristic "shingle-look."

New Combo Lift on the Rittisberg

In 2022, the Rittisberg team, spearheaded by lift operator Manfred Engelhardt, replaced a quad chairlift with an approximately eight-million-euro, state-of-the-art combo lift. This innovative cableway serves as both a cabin- and chairlift, transporting its passengers up the mountainside in a combination of 10-person gondolas and 6-seater chairlifts. In this way, it is able to cater to a broad range of winter sporting ambitions. Seasoned skiers can easily ascend the mountain by means of the 6-seater chairlifts, able to hit the slopes in no time at all with their skis are already clamped to their boots. Meanwhile, children, cross-country skiers, sledders, and winter hikers can ride the 10-person gondolas and glide in complete comfort to the top of the Rittisberg, embarking on an array of snowy adventures from the mountain station. Engelhardt beams, "Especially when it comes to cross-country skiing, winter hiking, and snowshoeing, the Rittisberg offers some fantastic alternatives to alpine skiing. Our new combo lift serves as the ideal uphill assist for all of these activities."
