GRUBER GOES after the novel by Doris Knecht

John Gruber, in his late thirties, doesn't like going to the doctor, he takes care of his own functioning. Alcohol, coke and THC, but above all painkillers guarantee something like a feeling of well-being. Women, and as many of them as possible, are the big secondary matter in Gruber's life. Actually a main thing, only their individual traits and needs do not interest him. He likes to think of himself as a detached, cynical worldly-wise man. A chance acquaintance, Sarah, finally opens the letter from the hospital that he has been carrying for several weeks. The diagnosis shakes Gruber's jack-of-all-trades self-image and his emotional armor begins to crack.

Based on Doris Knecht's debut novel (filmed with Manuel Rubey in the leading role), Sarah Rebecca Kühl has developed a stage version for Theater KuKuKK that retains Knecht's humor and linguistic rhythm. With only two actors and a live musician, Gruber's story is told on stage; a story that gets under your skin.
