The tour
In Pichl, this nice walking tour runs along meadow trails and along the edge of the forest on the sunny side of the Ennstal valley. Along the tour you pass through the idyllic villages of Gleiming, Pichl, Grubdörfl, Warterdorf and Audorf.
Turn-by-turn directions
From the village Gleiming the path runs for a short distance between the railway line and the main road until the junction to Pichl – Hotel Pichlmayrgut. Immediately after the Hotel Pichlmayrgut you branch off left. Then follows a walk through meadows above the wonderful Ennstal, to the slightly rising Aberg. Benches are inviting you here to linger. Through a short forest section you reach the road taking you to »Grubdörfl« village. You continue uphill and downhill through meadows to Warterdorf village. Then you branch off across the meadows and walk downhill to the Audorf and back to the starting point Gleiming.
Getting there
Exit from the federal highway B320 at Gleiming (approximately 7 kms west of Schladming) and head to the office building of Reiteralm Bergbahnen (lift operating company).

Security

Changes in weather patterns, quick falls in temperature, thunderstorms, wind, fog and snow are some of the dangers that can be encountered on a hiking tour. Hosts of alpine huts and mountain refuges have a lot of experience in the mountains and can give good advice about weather and the trails. Poor equipment, overestimation of one's own capabilities, carelessness, poor personal constitution and/or wrong judgement  can lead to critical situations. In case of thunderstorms: avoid summits, ridges and steel ropes.

GPS data and orienteering

Available GPS data - just like hiking maps - is only a guidance for orientation and can never depict a trail exactly with all its details. Especially at dangerous spots it is essential to judge on site how to proceed.

In an emergency please call:

  • 140 - for Alpine emergencies (all over Austria)
  • 112 - European GSM emergency number
