Neuhaus Memorial

Stainach-Pürgg

In the time of the Reformation, a Protestant church was built by the lord of Trautenfels Castle (1575), which was then still called Neuhaus. After a few decades, it fell victim to destruction by the sovereign Counter-Reformation (1599). Excavation of the existing remains began in 1991. In 1992, the memorial was ceremoniously opened in an ecumenical service. Today, the foundations of the old church are a memorial site where people reflect on fanaticism, hatred, forgiveness and forgetting.
