Nature's dream come true!

Winter walking at the foot of Dachstein’s south faces

Ramsau am Dachstein in the Schladming-Dachstein holiday region not only offers an excellent cross-country skiing infrastructure but also a great network of winter walking trails counting 70 km. Ramsau’s sunny plateau has amazing scenery, which makes winter walking at the foot of the Dachstein mountains a truly wonderful experience. There are both groomed winter walking trails as well as narrow winter walking paths. The trails are groomed right at the beginning of the winter season to be available to ramblers as well as to horse-drawn sleighs.

The wide Ramsau winter walking trails are mainly flat and lead across open and sunny terrain. The only traffic you will encounter are horse-drawn sleighs. The narrow winter walking paths can also have steep passages, and they mostly pass by the outskirts of the forests, making them ideal when it is windy or snowing since they offer shelter. Many country inns with cosy sitting rooms and authentic huts with sunny terraces invite you to stop for a bite. The Ramsau public buses move you easily around the region. In Ramsau’s winter walking map, you’ll find descriptions of all loops, and you can find all bus stops between Schladming and Ramsau as well.

Away from it all you’ll enjoy your hikes best and most comfortably when wearing snowshoes. The snow crunches beneath your feet as you go step by step through untouched nature. Walk on age-old paths, just like the miners did centuries ago – experience an unforgettable winter snowshoe walk.

The more the route is exposed, the more you need to know the area and its high Alpine nature. Our local mountain and ski guides, as well as the Alpine and cross-country ski instructors are excellent tour guides; they take you to the best places and keep you safe. Some Ramsau am Dachstein snowshoeing routes are signposted, with a description in the winter-walking folder.
