The cradle of the via ferratas

There has been a direct link between climbing, Ramsau and the Dachstein for many years. The Randkluftsteig was already established 170 years ago to the summit of the Dachstein, making it the oldest via ferrata in the eastern Alps.

The "heroic feat" of the Ramsau Steiner brothers can now be looked back on with pride. In 1909, without modern climbing equipment, Franz and Irg (Georg) succeeded in being the first to climb the mighty south face of the Dachstein. The "Steiner boys' stairway to heaven" was born.
