Alpinmuseum Austriahütte

Ramsau am Dachstein

In the Austriahütte - at 1638 m above sea level - you will find the highest museum of Styria of the Austrian Alpine Club.  In 1989 the first Alpine Museum in Styria was opened and in 1995 it was extended by a natural history exhibition showing the flora and fauna of the Dachstein area. The geological origin of the Dachstein massif, the beginning of alpinism and attempts to conquer the Dachstein are also depicted. A separate area is dedicated to the southern wall of the Dachstein and its pioneers with their climbing routes. One of the main points besides many exhibits is certainly the very detailed relief of the Dachstein massif.

The Austriahütte can be reached on a panoramic hiking trail from the valley station of the Dachstein cable car in approx. 30 minutes.
