The tour

Built in 2011, the via ferrata Amon is the connecting path between the Adamek hut and the Simony hut.

Turn-by-turn directions

Approach: From the Adamek hut, hike first into the direction of the Dachstein, then straight on to the glacier trail (Gosau glacier), approaching the northwest face of the Hohes Kreuz. The entry is at a cave-like niche, under a steep rock wall.

Descent: Same as approach, or from the top of the Hohes Kreuz along the marked path, which is very exposed, to the Niederes Kreuz. Keep hiking to the Hoher Ochsenkogel, and then descend to the Hohe Trog (2359 m). From there, opt or for a walk to the close-by Simony hut (about 2 h from Hohes Kreuz) or for a long hike back to the Adamek hut (about 4 h from Hohes Kreuz).

Please note: The via ferrata can only be reached via the glacier, which means glacier equipment is required. From the Dachstein gondola top-station to the Simonyscharte via the Hallstatt glacier, the entry can be reached within about 45 minutes.

Getting there

Arriving from the west:
From the west you can take the Munich-Salzburg motorway, continuing on the Tauern motorway (A 10) until the Ennstal junction. From here take the Ennstal A-road (the B 320) for around 30 km into the Schladming-Dachstein region, then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off.

Arriving from the north:
From the south-east take the Pyhrnautobahn motorway (A 9) to the Liezen junction and then the Ennstal A-road (B 320) into the Schladming-Dachstein region. Then take the Ramsau am Dachstein turn-off.

Security
