Snow Shoeing in Untertal valley
easy Snowshoe hikes · Schladming
Untertal valley in winter is an ideal terrain for snow shoeing. Beyond Waldhäuslalm inn, you enjoy peace and silence while making your way over snowy meadows and through the winter wonderland forests. The tour basically runs along the summer hiking route of the theme trail Wild Waters - the cross-country slopes are nearby most ot the time. We do ask you to please not step onto the cross-country tracks with your snow shoes, at it decreases the experience for cross country skiers. Thank you!
From Waldhäuslalm inn you walk along the bank of Untertalbach creek. Also on snow shoes you will soon realize why the cross-country slopes in Untertal valley are called "crystal slopes". Crossing snow-covered meadows and through short forest sections you reach Sondlalm inn where you can make a loop on the snowy meadows. For the way back, take the same way. Alternatively you may also continue into the valley. Walking past Gasthaus Weisse Wand inn you will reach the summer car parking Seeleiten where you turn around and head back out.
Before each and every ski tour or snow shoe walk you should check the most recent avalanche warnings which can be found at www.lawine-steiermark.at.
In winter time it is therefore important to also be careful on supposedly easy walks. Sections that are in the shadows can easily get icy, and slopes on the side of the trail may have avalanche hazard. Mountain sport is always carried out under personal responsibility - in winter even more than in summer. Tourist offices or avalanche warning services do not take any responsibility in respect to information provided.
