The tour

This is a hiking loop leading to a number of very beautiful lookout points. And for surefooted hikers there is an enticing extra: a hike up the Freienstein, then back along the Tree Horoscope Path. The Freienstein is a forested rocky ridgeline with a beautiful, occasionally exposed alpine trail to the summit cross, where we are greeted by impressive views.

Turn-by-turn directions

The start is below the parking lot (approx. 300m before Ackerlhof) at the overview board on the right side of the street. There it goes up the forest road a short piece of rope through the forest. It goes along the edge of the forest through the forest up to a clearing. From here you have a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains Stoderzinken, Kamm and Grimming. To the right is the Peace Bell (Friedensglocke). Then you cross the meadow to the Stöckelbergalm (not managed). Follow the information boards until you reach the Schneerosenhügel. There it goes down again and back to the starting point.

Getting there

From Gröbming few hundred meters on B320 towards Schladming. Exit Kulm until the farmhouse Ackerl.

No public arrival possible.

Safety information

Safety on the mountainside: changes in the weather, sudden fall in temperature, thunder storms, wind, fog and snow fields are all objective dangers and require the correct behaviour whilst underway. the landlords of the huts are all very knowledgeable about the mountains and can give you good tips about the weather and the routes. Insufficient equipment, exaggerated opinion of ones capabilities, frivolousness, poor health condition and a false evaluation of the situation can lead to a critical situation. In thunder storms: summits, crest-sites and safety rope aids are to be avoided.
