difficult closed Mountainbike · Schladming
Difficult tour with steep climbs on asphalt roads, forest roads and gravel roads. Every metre of altitude difference is rewarded with fantastic mountain and water landscapes.
The Giglachsee Tour is the ultimate bike tour in Schladming-Dachstein, demanding significant stamina. However, your efforts are rewarded with beautiful lake scenery. The tour begins at Planet Planai, first taking you through the Talbachklamm to Untertal. Continue to the town of Rohrmoos, then along forestry lanes and forest paths to Preuneggtal, where a climb via the toll road up to the Giglachseen commences. Passing the toll gate, the flat gravel road leads into the valley, the actual climb beginning at the Moahrhofalm. A number of steep switchbacks bring you to the Ursprungalm. You should now take a break to catch your breath for the climb ahead. A steep, roughly surfaced alpine pathway leads uphill. Only very fit bikers will manage this path without pushing. Yet all your efforts are forgotten when you first see the Giglachseen lakes. Return via the same route as far as the tollgate in Preunegg, then follow the Preuneggstraße to Pichl and from there on the R7 back to Schladming.
Weather changes, rapid drops in temperature, thunderstorms, wind and fog are objective dangers and require the right behaviour on the road. Lack of equipment, overconfidence, carelessness, poor condition and a wrong assessment can lead to critical situations. During thunderstorms: Avoid peaks, ridges and trees!
