Eating genuinely local and seasonal with regional heritage in mind
GENUSS REGION ÖSTERREICH is the biggest culinary initiative in the country
combining 115 'GenussRegionen' from Vorarlberg down to the Burgenland under one association.
GENUSS REGION ÖSTERREICH promotes important values, it ensures goods are certified original, that their quality is high and boosts the region's economy
Each 'GenussRegion' offers its own primary product produced by regional farms through tradition means, offering high quality locally-sourced culinary experiences.
'GenussRegion Ennstal Lamm & Ennstaler Steirerkas'
Regionality is important to us: The GenussRegion initiative ensures you get local products of the best quality. The holiday destination Schladming-Dachstein consists of two of these GenussRegionen - the 'Ennstal Steirerkas' and the 'Ennstal Lamm' were recognized as a Genuss Region in 2013.
The lambs of Ennstal are at home on the hilly fields and mountain meadows, living on the best grasses and herbs.
Hauser Kaibling plays a special role here.
During the summer, around 900 sheep graze on the mountain meadows and ski pistes - an ongoing landscaping service that they like to provide.
Every summer, the annual Almlammfest takes place here.
The Ennstal 'Steirerkas' is made by hill farm dairymaids, farmers and local cheese factories, using milk from cows, sheep and goats.
Ennstal 'Steirerkas' is considered a culinary landmark of the region.
After at least three weeks of maturing, the cheese acquires its grey-brown marbled appearance, lumpy, crumbling consistency and its special tangy savoury flavour.
