Schladming-Dachstein expands biking opportunities

10.07.2019

Mountain biking in the Alpine region continues to surge in popularity. With E mountain bikes very much on the fast track as well. The Schladming-Dachstein Region has significantly expanded its opportunities for bikers in summer 2019 – especially on the Reiteralm and Hauser Kaibling.

New: 15 km of trail-riding excitement on the Reiteralm

On and around the weekend of 20 – 23 June 2019, the Reiteralm will host opening events to celebrate the new Reiteralm Trails. A total of 15 km of new single-trails have been built. They consist of two blue (easy) and two red (intermediate) trails. In addition, two older hiking paths have now been converted into shared trails. The drop in elevation is 700 m. Insiders agree that the Gassl Trail, which begins on the Gasselhöhe, is very likely to become the most popular biking highlight on the Reiteralm. So that bikers can exploit this newly created offer to the max, the Reiteralm Bergbahnen will be operating the Preunegg Jet five days a week. For those wishing to transport their bikes by lift, single, half-day and all-day tickets are available, while holders of the Schladming-Dachstein Sommercard will even receive a discount. Bikecenter Reiteralm, which is located next to the Preunegg Jet valley station, offers a wide range of rental equipment along with guiding services.

Reiteralm Junior Trails – Austria’s biggest bike playground

Last July, the Reiteralm Junior Trails opened its doors to create the biggest bike playground in Austria. On four courses ranging in difficulty (total length: 600 meters), children and young rookies can playfully learn the basics of mountain biking or improve their skills. The easiest trail is especially child-friendly and even suitable for youngsters on push bikes. Kids’ bikes and protective gear can all be borrowed on-site, while holders of the Schladming-Dachstein Sommercard can even take advantage of attractive discounts.

Many tour options on the Hauser Kaibling

In summer 2019, the 8-passenger gondola on the Hauser Kaibling will run every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. With the Schladming-Dachstein Sommercard, you can even transport your mountain bikes to the top for free. On the Gumpental tour (14 km, virtually flat) which begins near the mountain terminal, not-so-serious bikers and children are both in for a treat. The Kaibling tour (36 km) and Five Mountains Tour (55 km) are all sure to grab the attention of everyone who craves longer tours, though these can be shortened by means of a gondola ride, too. Thanks to the excellent selection of rental bikes available at the valley station as well as free battery recharging stations on the mountain, a very good infrastructure has also been put in place for E-bikers.
